Buzzing in ear or tinnitus or ringing in the ears is a medical condition by which hearing noises not caused by an outside source are heard in your ears. The noises may either be soft or loud and may be categorized as a roar, buzz, hiss, hum, or ring. At times it can sound like blowing, whistling or sizzling. The noises or sounds may also be described as air escaping, running water, musical notes or noises emanating from the inside of the seashell.

Causes

The cause of buzzing ear has not been totally traced to a specific reason but tinnitus can be considered a symptom of almost all ear problems.

Ringing sounds in the ears may be a symptom of ear infection, wax or foreign materials in the ear, injury from loud and disturbing noises and Meniere’s disease. Meniere’s disease is a disorder of the inner ear which is manifested by loss of hearing and dizziness. Drugs such as antibiotics and aspirin as well as alcohol and caffeine may also cause ear noises. Tinnitus may also indicate high blood pressure, allergy or anemia and of more serious ailments such as tumor and aneurysm.

You can discuss first with your doctor the current medications you are taking including the vitamins and supplements.

Medications that can relieve symptoms of tinnitus include anti-arrhythmics, antihistamines, vasodilators, tranquilizers and anticonvulsants.

Alternative therapy for tinnitus

There are also alternative therapies for tinnitus treatment such as acupuncture, hypnosis and craniosacral therapy.

Vitamins or herbal supplements including ginkgo, melatonin, Vitamin B and zinc can also be taken for tinnitus cure. However, you should consult your doctor before taking any of these medications.

Prevention and control

To prevent experiencing buzzing in ear or tinnitus, you must remember to wear ear protection in situations or occasions when ear damage may happen to you such as when attending loud concerts or when near operating jackhammers.

You can prevent further damage to your ears which can lead to hearing loss when you try to avoid excessive noise.

Also make sure that your blood pressure is always normal by maintaining proper body weight, exercising at a regular basis and consulting your doctor every year.

  1. You fail to point out that an EXCESS of synthetic Vitamin B-6 (Pyridoxine) may cause serious neurological consequences and damage, sometimes permanent, in those susceptible..

    Vitamin B-6 from food sources does not demonstrate these effects.
